iPods and Hearing Loss in Children
Exposure to even one loud noise can cause permanent hearing loss. However, hearing loss is associated with not only the loudness of the noise, but the length of exposure as well. If parents can hear the music from their child's Ipod, the volume needs to be decreased. Be aware of the signs of early hearing loss. Be sure to share this story with family and friends. Have a great week, from your friends at Beltone New England.

TESTIMONIAL TUESDAY !!!
TESTIMONIAL TUESDAY !!
Beltone has been helping the world hear better for over 70 years. Take a trip down memory lane with us and experience the service Beltone has offered over that time…
Dear Laura and Michael,
I just want to thank you so much for the gift of hearing. I am so very grateful for my wonderful family in entering me into the Beltone Give-away Contest and for Beltone for giving me such a wonderful gift, the gift of hearing.
Carol and Lindsey in the Trumbull office are the greatest. I have had nothing but outstanding service. Carol made me feel so comfortable that I recommended my Mom, Rita to go for a hearing test and fitting for new hearing aids. My mom, who is eighty four years young, she felt very comfortable with Carol. Carol has a wonderful way with people of all ages and has a very warm and welcoming personality. Lindsey, who is the receptionist, is very professional and has a wonderful smile for all that come through that door.
I am recommending all to Beltone and have nothing but compliments to say about the service and the hearing aids. The hearing aids are so very comfortable, sometimes I forget that I have them in and just hearing sounds that I haven’t heard before reminds me of this wonderful gift that I had the privilege to win.
Thank you again for choosing me as a winner of this great give-away and for the professional and terrific service that I have received from the Trumbull office. They have been more than helpful to both my Mom and I.
With much gratitude,
Deborah

Self-Hearing Test
Happy Monday to our friends and followers. Today we are posting a self-hearing test. Set your volume to regular settings. Watch Hearing Test and listen very carefully using headphones. The video displays audio frequencies that are being played. You can determine what you can or what you cannot hear. Typically, depending on age, audible frequencies will be between 20-30 Hertz on the low side of the audio spectrum, and 10-16 kiloHertz on the high side of the audio spectrum. There are individuals, however, who can hear the whole spectrum between 16 Hz (Hertz) and 20 kHz (kiloHertz). Because of the encoding used during the audio preparation, tests above 18 kHz are not very reliable. Be sure to share with family and friends.

Noice-Induced Hearing Loss
Every day, we experience sound in our environment, such as the sounds from television and radio, household appliances, and traffic. Normally, we hear these sounds at safe levels that do not affect our hearing. However, when we are exposed to harmful noise—sounds that are too loud or loud sounds that last a long time—sensitive structures in our inner ear can be damaged, causing noise-induced hearing loss. These sensitive structures, called hair cells, are small sensory cells that convert sound energy into electrical signals that travel to the brain. Once damaged, our hair cells cannot grow back. Learn more about noise-induced hearing loss in this article by the National Institute of Deafness..
